How To Maximize Credit Card Rewards By Getting 5X Points On All Your Amazon Purchases

by | Aug 14, 2021 | Credit Cards, Tactics | 0 comments

In this post, I’ll show you exactly how I get 5X points on all my purchases through Amazon. This is an enormous way to maximize your credit card rewards that you can then in turn use to redeem for travel.

The reason why this credit card point hack is so great is because Amazon is such a robust platform to get 5X points on. I personally use Amazon for everything:

  • Amazon Fresh for my groceries – this is a fixed cost I have to eat anyway, so why not get 5X points on it?
  • Amazon for all my own material needs.
  • Gifts for friends across the world.

My Amazon spending is probably one of my biggest expenses because it kind of encapsulates most of my expenses. So getting 5X points on this is a ridiculous hack.

Here’s how to do it.

First, Get A Chase Ink Business Cash To Maximize Your Credit Card Rewards Points

In order to get this credit card, you can simply apply online here.

During the application process, if they need you to prove that you’re a “business,” just say you’re a sole proprietor, because that requires no legal documentation like an LLC and anyone can be a sole prop. This is the easiest way to get the Chase Ink Business Cash card.

If, for some reason, the online process rejects you, you can go to a Chase branch and open a business checking account as a sole prop. When you open a business checking account with Chase, they’ll actually try to sell you a Chase Ink Business Cash card to pair with the account. Once you get approved for the credit card, just close your business checking account if you don’t have a business.

Though I recommend having some sort of a side hustle because owning a business that makes you money means you have more control over your life. And the whole thesis of this blog is to escape wage slavery anyway.

Next, Go To Staples And Go Crazy On Amazon Gift Cards

Next, understand that with this credit card, you’ll get 5X points on all office purchases. This means if you were to go to Staples and buy a notebook for $10, you get 50 points back.

Instead of notebooks and pens, you’re going to get Amazon gift cards.

I’d say “call ahead to Staples” to make sure they have Amazon gift cards in stock, but all of them will say they have it in stock even if they don’t.

But, it doesn’t hurt to call as a filter.

Once you go to Staples, grab as many $100 Amazon gift cards as humanly possible. Do not grab gift cards with lower denominations if you can help it. The reason’s because the more cards you buy, the more time it takes to redeem the cards and it can be super annoying.

And if you’re insane like me, you’ll get looks from the Staples clerks for buying $1000-$2000 worth of Amazon gift cards. Every. Damn. Time. To save time at checkout, just whip out your ID along with your Chase Ink Business Cash card since they’ll likely ask you for it.

Now that you’ve got a bunch of Amazon gift cards, it might take a while to redeem. Read the next section for the fastest way to redeem these cards.

Fastest Way To Redeem Amazon Gift Cards

Finally, you’ll want to redeem the Amazon gift cards so you can effectively use it as cash later on for all of your Amazon purchases.

The fastest way to redeem these Amazon Gift Cards is through the mobile app, not your desktop.

First, open your app, and click on the hamburger menu on the bottom right.

maximize your credit card rewards points by using Amazon gift cards.

Then, you’ll want to tap See all underneath Programs & Features.

Scroll down until you see Gift Cards & Registry – tap it.

how to find the gift cards section on amazon app so you can actually maximize your credit card rewards points, fast

Tap “Your Gift Card Balance” and then tap Redeem an Amazon Gift Card.

Now, start ripping apart your gift cards.

Here’s a pro tip: don’t use a coin to scratch the silver off the gift cards – this takes a long time and makes a huge mess. Just simply start peeling off the corner with your fingernails and rip the entire silver off, cleanly. Ripping off the silver is much quicker and much cleaner.

Once all your cards have their claim code reviewed, go back to your app and just tap Scan your claim code:

scan your amazon gift cards so you can convert your hard-earned money into actual cash you can use to buy stuff on amazon. other words: once you redeem the gift card, your credit card rewards points are now maximized in the form of cash that can be spent on amazon

Instead of having to type out a super long code, your phone can just scan the code and you’ll be able to save a ton of time using the phone. For example, when I used to do this the bad way, it’ll take me 20-30 minutes to redeem 20 codes. Nowadays, it takes 5 minutes.

Caveat: After scanning 10 Amazon gift cards, the system will ask you to enter a captcha for the 11th gift card and onwards. This is why you want to have as many $100 gift card denominations as possible, because you can waste a lot of time doing captchas, and their captchas aren’t easy. On average, it takes me 2 tries to enter the proper code for Amazon captchas for some reason.

Now, to actually maximize your credit card rewards you don’t want to do something stupid like redeeming it for cash. Instead, you’ll want to transfer this card’s points to your Chase Sapphire Reserve / Preferred card (either one works). This way, you’ll have the flexibility of booking flights/hotels for maximum value with these cards either through 1) the Chase portal directly, or 2) by transferring the points to a hotel or travel partner.

Congrats, You’re Now Super Rich…With Points

Even though getting the Chase Ink Business Cash might be a little bit harder to get than other cards, it’s well worth it.

If you’ve followed the instructions in this tutorial, you should now be able to maximize your credit card points and rewards.

The reason why this hack is so amazing is because Amazon can be used to buy pretty much everything: from clothing to gadgets to books to toilet paper to even food. You can literally spend all your food, clothing, and tech budget on Amazon and your quality of life would be almost the same as if you spent the money buying it in person.

On top of being able to spend a hefty amount of cash (that you’d spend anyway, regardless) on Amazon, you get 5X points for it!!! In other words, most of your purchases can be worth 5X points.

And at the end of the day, 5X points is the most I’ve seen as a reward on any card (the exception being 10X points for Lyft on Sapphire Reserve, but its use case and spending amounts will be much more limited than the damage you can do on Amazon).

And that’s not even all…the card has no annual fee. So it’s not like you’re needing to give up a single penny in order to grab the 5X rewards on most of your purchases.

One thing to keep in mind: the card does have a $25K/yr spending cap on each category (or 125K points/yr per card). But 2 things:

  1. Spending $25K/yr on Amazon purchases is a bit excessive as I don’t spend that much on everything combined in a single year.
  2. If you have multiple businesses, you can have a bunch of these cards at no cost. As an example, I have 3 of these cards due to some defunct sole props which means if I really wanted to spend $75K on Amazon this year to get 375K points, I can.

PS: If you can maximize your credit card rewards with this trick, that’s great. And normally I’d tell you to share this with all your friends so we can have a lot of points together. But please don’t share this, because if everyone were to do this, it’s quite likely Chase will chance their point system for this card. And to be honest, I don’t want to 1) not have a ton of easy points, and 2) have to go back and edit this post. Feel free to share every other post on this blog though.
